I was at home alone after everyone had left for school, work and I was standing at the bottom of the steps looking up. With my cup of tea in my hand I plodded up and turned around to look down. The bottom step was fresh new wood and looked out of place. It made me remember of a year ago when
@joshsneaker stayed at my place. He'd just taken me shopping buying me some Nike Prestos. I came rushing out of the car excited to wear my new kicks and watch my friend enjoy them looking up at me. I stepped on the first step and it broke in half under my weight.
Josh didn't see it as a problem. When I came out and looked down he'd removed the broken wood and was laying in the position of the last step.
"Now that's using your head" I remember saying walking down the steps in my brand new Nike Prestos. I stepped onto his chest briefly and made my way to the back of the car to get more bags of shopping. I'd repeat this a number of times before on the last trip I was on my way towards the steps when my mrs called. I was talking on the phone, holding bags of shopping and just stepped on Josh like he was the bottom step. Once inside and off the phone I went back out to step on him.
I don't know what it was but seeing him laying there looking up at me at the right height for the bottom step just seemed natural.
3pm rolled around and I had to go pick the kids up from school... Josh headed off, so I thought at the time. When I came home with the kids, there it was. The brand new bottom step. Fresh new wood. He'd repaired the step leaving me a cheeky note, "Don't ever forget the time I gave you wood."
So there I stand daily... looking at that plank of wood that' looks different from the rest and remember the time Josh gave me wood.
