My local salve - An afternoon visit.

I'm always in the garage. It's my happy place and has always been a bit of a man cave. The house is a two or three minute walk across a gravel driveway where my wife and I park our cars. My ute gets the garage as I don't drive it as much. This morning I had a small gap in my schedule as the kids were at school and the wife was out with the baby so I text one of my local subs and he arrived quietly. He rolled himself in some old carpet with his face poking out of the hole and shuffled under my desk.

I pulled on a pair of dirty white socks and slipped my white nikes on and walked out to the garage without tying the laces. There he was like a good sub, rolled in the carpet with his feet sticking out face waiting to be stepped on. It's weird saying good morning to a mat but I asked it how it's morning was. To be honest I didn't really care, it just seemed like the polite thing to do. He was telling me he was delighted to get my text message and dropped all his other plans to come and serve. To be honest I was busy walking around turning on all my computers to care about anything it was saying. It's voice just blended into the background but stopped as I found myself standing on it and sliding my chair closer so I could sit down. Before long I was seated had music playing in the back ground and starting the paperwork that had piled up over the week.

I found myself being busy, not even noticing that my foot had pushed forward and had scuffed the side of it's face. Eventually when I was well into working the sole of my shoe gripped nicely on the face. The same place it would stay for the next hour until I had to lean over to grab my phone to make a call. My call went on for longer than I had wanted and absent mindlessly found myself walking up and down wiping my soles on the carpet like a chicken scratching in the dirt. Once the call was completed I finally looked down to see my heal pressing on the mats face. Clearly it was struggling to breath because of the position of my feet so I stepped off and walked back into my house to get a coffee.

As expected when I returned the carpet had been rolled up and the sub had departed exiting the same way as it came in. Got a text reply from "The Carpet Guy" as he's known in my phone saying thank you, quote received, his way of saying thank you sir.
